Learn the basics and considerations for designing an irrigation system for your garden (Heather is the lead designer for Dripworks' systems). Alaskan adventurer and filmmaker Bjorn Olson will show a trailer and present a slideshow from his ongoing film project about the Native Tribe of Diomede. In 2019, Bjorn was contacted by the tribe to make a film about how climate change is affecting this Bering Strait community. In 2023, Bjorn was awarded the Alaska Wilderness League's Adam Kolton Storyteller Grant to continue developing this film. Learn about the challenges this community is facing in a rapidly changing world and about the difficulties of making a film in one of the most remote villages in North America.

Learn practical job skills for becoming a deckhand on any vessel in one weekend at Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer. Includes safety, survival skills, line handling, knots, gear, basic navigation, crew roles, helm, wheelhouse expectations, and more. Scholarships are available through the Homer Marine Trades Association. 16 years and up, 15 years allowed with special permission from instructor.
