Kenai Peninsula College Covid-19 Information and Polices

  • Masks

Masks are optional in KPC buildings.

If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, for the safety of others or for yourself, please do so. It is important to recognize that many people hold strong opinions about masking. Those who feel more comfortable wearing a mask should do so; those who prefer not to wear a mask should also feel comfortable with that choice; and everyone should respect those decisions.

KPC will continue to supply masks in our buildings at no charge.

If you exhibit symptoms of sickness, please work or participate remotely.

  • Quarantine and Isolation

    Quarantine

Quarantine if you have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, unless you are up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations or were COVID-19 positive in the last 90 days.

    • If you are up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations:

      • You do not need to quarantine unless you have symptoms.

      • Wear a well-fitting mask around others for 10 days following exposure.

      • Get tested at least five days after your exposure.

    • If you are not fully up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations:

      • Stay home and quarantine for at least five full days.

      • Wear a well-fitting mask if you must be around others in your home.

      • Get tested at least five days after exposure even if you don’t develop symptoms.

Calculating Quarantine: The date of exposure is considered day 0. Day 1 is the first full day after your last contact with a person who has had COVID-19. Stay home and away from other people for at least five days.

    Isolation

If you have a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19, isolating helps prevent infection of others around you. During isolation, stay in a separate room and use a separate bathroom, if possible. Wear a well-fitting mask and improve the ventilation in your home.

    • If you test positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms, regardless of vaccination status:

      • Stay home for at least five days and isolate yourself from others.

      • Wear a well-fitting mask if you must be around others in your home.

    • Ending isolation if you had symptoms:

      • After five days, when you are fever-free (without use of fever-reducing medication) and when other symptoms improve, you may end isolation.

    • Ending isolation if you did not have symptoms:

      • After at least five days after your positive test.

      • If you were severely ill with COVID-19:

      • Isolate for at least 10 days.

      • Consult your doctor before ending isolation.

    • Take precautions until day 10:

      • Wear a well-fitting mask anytime you are around others.

      • Avoid travel.

      • Avoid being around people who are at high risk.

Calculating Isolation: Day 0 is your first day of symptoms or a positive viral test. Day 1 is the first full day after your symptoms developed or your test specimen was collected. If you have COVID-19 or have symptoms, isolate for at least five days

  • Reporting COVID-19 Cases

We are no longer requiring those in the KPC/UAA community to contact Environmental Health & Safety and Risk Management if they test positive for COVID-19.

  • Vaccination

There are currently no COVID-19 vaccines available on campus.

We encourage you to get vaccinated! Visit covidvax.alaska.gov to view all providers. For additional information and resources, visit the UA Vaccine Information page. Vaccination remains are most effective tool against COVID-19.

  • Building Access

All KPC Campuses (Soldotna and Homer) are open to the public.

  • Student Health and Counseling

    Student Health Clinic (Soldotna)

Counseling (avalible for all students, facutly, and staff)

  • Alaska COVID Exposure Notification Express

We invite you to use a smartphone tool called Exposure Notification Express (ENX), now available on iOS and Android.

ENX will improve the ability to slow community spread of COVID-19 by empowering Alaskans to act quickly if they come into contact with an individual who later tests positive for the virus. The tool is completely voluntary and anyone in Alaska can use it.

To opt in, turn on Exposure Notifications in your iPhone settings or download the Alaska COVID ENX app in the Google Play store.

    Learn more at enx.alaska.edu.
