Bayview Hall (KBBH) 124
Dr. Calhoun was born and raised in Homer and graduated from Homer High School. After earning her BA in English from Seattle Pacific University and Ph.D. in English Literature from Boston University, she returned to Alaska and was fortunate to be selected for her dream job at the Kachemak Bay Campus. She is grateful to be settled back in Homer with her husband and two young boys and working with students in the Homer community.
Dr. Calhoun is particularly passionate about helping students strengthen their critical thinking skills so that they feel empowered to evaluate sources of information, to seek out perspectives different from their own in order to understand an issue at a deeper level, and then to contribute their voice.
When not teaching, she loves to explore the outdoors with her family and their dog, Coho. They enjoy cross-country skiing, snowboarding, hiking, berry picking, riding their bikes, and exploring the beaches of Kachemak Bay and Kodiak. Dr. Calhoun was a deckhand on her husband’s salmon seiner in Kodiak for 9 seasons and looks forward to getting back out there when her boys are old enough. They love Alaska and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
