If you love the outdoors and could picture yourself working in Alaska's largest industry, fisheries technology is a great fit for you! KPC's Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer has partnered with UAS Sitka campus to offer this program that has options to earn either an occupational endorsement certificate (14 credits), certificate (32 credits) or AAS degree (60 credits). More flexibility is offered by choosing from two different emphasis areas: fisheries management or Alaska salmon enhancement.
As a fisheries technician, you can find work in a variety of fields in many different private or public or organizations and agencies such as the AK Dept. of Fish and Game, US Fish and Wildlife, AK Native corporations and the aquaculture/mariculture industries.
By "letting salmon lead you up the ladder" in the industry you can be certain you will be earning a degree that was designed with industry input to ensure that when you complete the program, you will have the skills required for employment. In addition, all courses are offered online.
It is very important to work with an advisor to put together a program that meets your unique needs. The program can be coordinated through KBC in Homer.
