Placement Exams: Writing/Math/Statistics

KPC uses placement testing in order to evaluate at what level a new student should enter into writing and reading courses (ACCUPLACER) and into math and statistics courses (ALEKS).

A new student can save themselves a lot of time and stress when they begin their college experience in courses that reflect their prior knowledge of writing, math, and statistics.

These tests cannot be "passed" or "failed". The results, along with the student's academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors and counselors to determine the appropriate course selection.

What to take with you to the tests:

On the day of your test be sure to bring a government issued photo ID with you to the Testing Center.

  • ACCUPLACER Overview

ACCUPLACER is KPC/UA’s computerized placement test to assess skills in writing.  Alternatively, students may be placed into writing courses based upon ACT or SAT score information about their academic skills in English and reading.

ACCUPLACER is not required for students applying for admission to a degree or certificate program; however, students registering for writing, or communication courses for the first time; and for students taking courses with applicable credits will be required. ACCUPLACER Assessment is recommended for all students. Once completing a test, a score report will be created and provided to the student.

For additional information on alternative placement and navigating the ACCUPLACER scores and placement results, please see the UAA Catalog or contact KRC Student Services at 907.262.0330 or call KBC at 907.235.7743.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students must have their UA ID (username and password) to log in to take the ALEKS exam. There is no cost for the ALEKS exam and the test is web-based and accessible on the Internet.
