Elementary Education

"The best things in preparing for my teaching at KPC were the location and flexibility. By attending KPC I was able to continue working full time while taking classes at night, online and with very flexible professors." ~Hannah Dolphin (BA, Elementary Education, 2014) is currently a teacher at K-Beach Elementary School in Soldotna

Overview

The BA in Elementary Education is a UAA campus degree program offered at KPC. A student interested in K-6 teacher preparation may obtain a BA in Elementary Education (BAEE) with elementary teacher certification. The BA in Elementary Education is a professional degree nationally recognized by the Association of Childhood Education International (ACEI).

Unique features of the program include an emphasis on culturally responsive teaching in Alaska’s context; strong liberal studies focus; exposure to a range of teaching and curriculum design approaches, including integration of educational technology; and focused field experiences, developmentally sequenced and in a variety of school/classroom settings.

Students are encouraged to take EDFN A101, Introduction to Education (3 credits), to learn more about the field of education before declaring the major. Careful course sequencing is necessary in order to meet the requirements. Advising is required.
