Counseling at Kenai Peninsula College

counselingAt KPC, faculty counselors work closely with students experiencing personal or emotional problems, including crisis counseling. Faculty counselors can also help guide students through selecting courses based on past performance concerns and life transitions.

The Counseling Center is completely confidential, except in cases of life-threatening emergency (e.g. the threat or attempt of suicide, and the threat of seriously injuring another person, etc.) or when legally required to report abuse of a minor. Except in these extraordinary circumstances, neither what a student discusses with a counselor nor any of the required written records are shared with anyone - including roommates, parents, friends, faculty, and staff - without the student’s written permission.

Counseling services can assist people with a variety of personal issues related to school performance. Counseling and our referral services are not limited to “complex mental issues.” Students may be experiencing issues such as anxiety, loneliness, homesickness, depression, work/school balance, grief and loss, financial difficulties, stress management, family problems and more. Any of these issues can affect academic performance and hinder achievement of life goals. KPC counselors and advisors are here to assist students in problem solving, eliminating barriers, and reducing distractions that may keep students from completing goals.
