Kenai National Moose Range sign, Sterling Highway 1950's
This was the name of the vast wildlife acreage on the Kenai Peninsula. It was established and so named by President Franklin Roosevelt as a result of the stories of returning hunters who reported on the giant moose found therein. In 1980 the name was changed to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge because many other species were being managed as well as moose.
