Aerial view of Anchorage, 1949

This photo was taken the same day as photo #788 and #789, and was probably taken from Virgil's Supercub airplane. Looking east down the park strip between 9th and 10th, and to the left the streets count down to 4th Avenue. Prominent is the first Alaska Native Service Hospital. The smoke in this photo is from an old city dump off the east end of Merrill Field. Also seen is the first Providence Hospital at 9th and L Streets, which later became a victim of the 1964 earthquake.
