Pappy Keeler's cabin, Soldotna 1951
Pappy Keeler in front of his cabin holding a neighbor's child. He and his son, Jack Keeler, arrived from Oregon to take up homesteads. His cabin pictured here was built with skills by Pappy who had spent many years in Oregon in occupations which took him into the woods as a sawyer, etc. Noteworthy here is his loft, 2 pair of snowshoes and galvinized tubs. The cabin is banked with snow as high as the windows. This was an effort to retain every possible BTU inside the cabin. Rhoda Sandstrom is standing in front of the Chevy which brought the Sandstrom family from Michigan to Alaska.
