Penn's Hardware Store, Soldotna 1962

Penrod Buchanen, an early arrival in Soldotna, opened the first hardware store in Soldotna. Betty Lande was a long-time employee. With the building needs of the budding community, this was a flourishing business. Al's Radio & TV, owned by Al Hershberger, also was ripe for the neighborhood. During that time radio was the news & entertainment, until television eventually reached Soldotna. Al offered retail & service and was a skilled technician. From this beginning he went into his first furniture business.
