Cheechako News Office, Mable Smith, Soldotna 1960's

Mable Smith, a news journalist from Hominy, Oklahoma. Came to Soldotna to be near her son, Poon (J.S.) Smith and his homesteading family. She immediately filed on a homestead herself, seldom done by single women. Her cabin can still be seen on West Poppy Lane. Mable never missed a story, she was sure to be first on the scene.
