Mudhole Smith, founder of Cordova Airlines, Soldotna 1960's

Mudhole Smith. He came to Soldotna from Cordova where he had formed a small airline called Cordova Airlines. Soon after the dedication of the Soldotna airport, this airline began daily scheduled flights to Anchorage. Later a fatal crash happened during a storm at night, which took the lives of workers returning home. Because of the airport layout, a cross runway is not possible.
