He moved from Anchorage with his parents, who opened Big K grocery on the Kenai Spur Highway. He stayed in the business which relocated just a short distance north on the Kenai Spur Highway, and went on to open a motel and RV park. He and his wife Beth raised a fine family. He had some time on the city council, and was also a cornerstone of the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
