Soldotna Airport Terminal, Soldotna 1964

This airstrip served private and commercial aircraft. It handled a lively business especially between Soldotna and Anchorage, both passenger and freight. Ed Back was the ham radio operator here, who used equipment that belonged to Al Hershberger. Both of these men were invaluable communicators during the 1964 earthquake. A fatal crash about twelve years later involving oil field crews ended most commercial operations.
