Jim Bergsrud and Virgil Dahler hauling clams, Clam Gulch early 1950's

Jim was Virgil's neighbor on the adjacent homestead. In this picture they are transporting their clams from the beach to the Sterling Highway. It was a tedious journey - up the cliff and over the snow. But after a winter of a moose diet the fresh clams were a treat. Jim is pulling and Virgil is pushing a small sled with a wooden box tied on securely. The clams are in a burlap sack within the box. Clam shovels are seen.
