Crowded bleachers at the Soldotna Rodea Grounds, Soldotna late 1960's

Soldotna rodeos took place at the rodeo grounds on Kalifornsky Beach Road. With a young population and homesteaders with grasslands or good possibilies for raising hay, many families raised a horse or three. Horses were commonly seen being ridden along the byways. A lot of enthusiasm arose for different horse events. Some young people rode their horses many miles to school on the last day. Rodeo events drew big crowds.
