On Friday, October 18 at 6:00 PM, Dr. Jeff Meyers, Associate Professor of History at UAA/KPC’s Kachemak Bay Campus will host a round table discussion that will cover the election from the perspective of Homer area locals. How does the national election reflect who we are as a community? Come join the conversation. This event is free and takes place in Pioneer Hall. On Thursday, October 24 at 6 pm, Homer author and UAA Writing faculty, Rich Chiappone will read from his latest work’ “Uncommon Weather.” Told with great empathy and often deeply ironic, wry, and sardonic humor, these stories are a counterpoint to the usual mythos, illuminating an Alaska not usually portrayed in books, on TV, or in movies. Deskhand Skills logo
Deckhand Skills

Learn practical job skills for becoming a deckhand on any vessel in one weekend at Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer. Includes safety, survival skills, line handling, knots, gear, basic navigation, crew roles, helm, wheelhouse expectations, and more. Scholarships are available through the Homer Marine Trades Association. 16 years and up, 15 years allowed with special permission from instructor.
