Progress Days boat race, Centennial Park, Soldotna 1965

Boat races have occupied a large place in the Soldotna Progress Days program. Here officials (in the motor boat) clock finishes in the kayak race in the 1965 races. This race was for non-motorized boats. They were put in at Petersens on the Moose River and the race ended at Centennial Park in Soldotna. Two Kayaks and a motorized boat are shown. These boat races were discontinued a few years later in 1973 when Warren Ames drowned while preparing for the race. The nine people in this photo are unidentified.
