Ace of Clubs bar and café, Soldotna mid 1960's

The Ace of Clubs (originally Davenport's, now the Maverick bar as of 2016) on the Sterling Highway through Soldotna, was a bar and cafe built of concrete blocks by a Sterling homesteader, Dave Davenport. A string of colorful women worked there in the early days, namely Jessie Ames, Rusty Lancashire, Dee Stock and Leola Patterson. Leola soon was the owner and operated it for quite a few years.
