Landing ship tank unloading at Nikiski dock, Nikiski 1962

Standard Oil refinery was the first to operate at Nikiski, and the buildings were fabricated in Tacoma by Parsons. It was loaded on one barge (a WWII LST - landing ship tank, 300 feet long) and towed to the Kenai Peninsula site at Nikiski. Upon arrival it slammed into the dock, and Crowley Marine repaired the damage. It was designed as a small unit, and in the late 1990's it was moved out of Alaska - again on one barge.
