Naptowne postmaster-American Legion Commander George Petrovich, Sterling 1963

George Petrovich and his brother Alex filed on homesteads in Sterling in the late 1940's. They applied for the first postoffice in what they called 'Naptowne', being from Indianapolis, Indiana. Later when they left the area Laura Pedersen became the longtime postmaster. It was she who changed the name to Sterling. Being such an ambitious woman herself she did not want people to think these homesteaders were taking naps. George is pictured here in an American Legion cap after being elected commander at a meeting in Juneau.
