In Memoriam of Cambid-J "Cam" Choy

Cambid-J "Cam" Choy

The Kenai Peninsula College community is saddened to share that Cambid-J “Cam” Choy, Associate Professor of Art at Kenai Peninsula College, passed away on July 1, 2024.

Cam Choy was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sculpture and Drawing from University of Notre Dame, as well as earning a Masters of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Drawing from University of Kentucky in 1991. His primary influence stemmed from undergraduate travels to Italy where he was exposed to the works of the Renaissance Masters. His annual trips to his childhood home kept him connected to influences far different from his academic training. The vast Pacific Ocean, the melting pot culture of the Pacific Rim, and the island lifestyle all bear their imprint on Cam’s work.

Cam joined the Kenai Peninsula College faculty in 2013.  He taught a wide range of art studio and lecture courses including painting, watercolor, drawing, art appreciation and sculpture.  Cam also served as the KPC Art Gallery Director which has showcased many local and national exhibits.  He was involved in many community art projects and an active member of the Soldotna Rotary Club.  His work, showcased on the walls of KPC, through sculptures in the community, and through the instruction of his students, provides a glimpse into his talent, passion and expertise.

He was a committed teacher, valued colleague, and friend to many at Kenai Peninsula College and within our greater community and will be greatly missed.
