Beginning Saturday, March 22, Homer writers will offer a three-session workshop where students will refine flash writing techniques about our pets, our chickens, our work animals, animals we first saw when we were young children, and animals in story books we've never seen but love just the same. On Tuesday, April 23 at 5:00 pm, Kachemak Bay Campus will begin Coastal Navigation classes. In this six-part class, you will learn essential boating skills to help you safely explore Kachemak Bay. Covers safety, navigation, anchoring, rules of the road, charting, and basic seamanship. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, April 23 - May 9. $150. Learn practical job skills for becoming a deckhand on any vessel in one weekend at Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer. Includes safety, survival skills, line handling, knots, gear, basic navigation, crew roles, helm, wheelhouse expectations, and more. Scholarships are available through the Homer Marine Trades Association. 16 years and up, 15 years allowed with special permission from instructor.
