The UAA College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Community Lecture Series brings the world to Alaska and Alaska to the world. The series showcases speakers with a broad and diverse range of expertise and a deep well of insight. In the first CAS lecture event of the season, SIMULCAST to both the Kenai River Campus in Soldotna and the Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer, "Gen-Z Historian" Kahlil Greene will demonstrate how effective leadership and proactive advocacy online can drive social change, encouraging people to kickstart their own activism using the most effective strategies of the 21st century. On Thursday, September 9 at 1 pm, join South Peninsula Hospital in Pioneer Hall for a program focusing on healthy aging, connection, and practical wellness tools. Begin by learning how to stay safe online, followed by a free lunch and community resource connections, and then enjoy a gentle, accessible movement workshop. Finally, the Center for Safe Alaskans will provide free CarFit checks in the parking lot to help ensure vehicles are properly adjusted for safety and comfort. All are welcome, and participants can drop in or leave anytime during sessions. Expect a friendly, small-group setting with plenty of opportunity for connection and conversation.

On Friday, September 18 & 19, join KPC Geology professor Dr. Taz Tally, aka "the Rock Doc" for a journey back through time down Diamond Creek Trail and along the shoreline, as he reveals the forces of nature that have shaped Kachemak Bay and created one of the great rock-hounding beaches. Friday at 5:30 pm at Kachemak Bay Campus, enjoy a short exploration of the rock cycle, and then meet the instructor at the Diamond Creek Trail and see the rock cycle “in action.” Both days are included in the fee, but attending the lecture is not necessary for students to fully enjoy the field trip. $89. The 2026 Alaska Historical Society conference will take place at Kachemak Bay Campus this year, October 8 - 10, in Pioneer Hall. The conference theme, New Directions in Alaska History, focuses on the impacts of global forces on local communities’ experiences, environmental changes, and contributions of Alaska Native peoples. The conference offers numerous public enrollment options, including a $25 day rate for students (must show ID at check-in), as well as student scholarships.
