KPC College Council

On Thursday, March 21 at 6:00 PM, Kachemak Bay Campus will host KPC's College Council Meeting. The KPC College Council is a monthly public meeting where college leadership reports on KPC programs, initiatives, and strategies, and solicits input from the college council and community members. These meetings are zoom accessible, open to the general public, and take place in person at all three KPC campuses on a rotating schedule.

Please join the KPC Showcase in welcoming Alaskan author Susan Pope. She will be on campus to discuss her recent memoir: Rivers and Ice: A Woman’s Journey Toward Family and Forgiveness. Susan Pope’s writing has been shaped by growing up in the wide and wild landscape of Alaska. Her stories reveal the tension between a desire for intimate ties to home and community, and a longing to flee to faraway places. Pope’s work has appeared in Pilgrimage, Under the Sun, The Southeast Review Online, Cirque: A Literary Journal of the Pacific Rim, Crosscurrents North: Alaskans on the Environment, Hippocampus, Under the Gum Tree, Burrow Press Review, BioStories, Writers’ Workshop Review, Alaska Magazine, Bluestem, and Burningword Literary Review, among others.

Know Your Land: Efficient Irrigation Systems

Heather Dabney from Dripworks will present on how to conserve water, save time, and encourage healthy plant growth with efficient irrigation systems. Learn the basics and considerations for designing an irrigation system for your garden (Heather is the lead designer for Dripworks' systems). Also learn about how USDA-NRCS can help you design an efficient system - and help pay for it! This event takes place in person at Kachemak Bay Campus and via Zoom The KNOW YOUR LAND series of talks is brought to you by Homer SWCD, the USDA-NRCS Homer, AK field office, and the KPC Kachemak Bay Campus. We would like to thank the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) for providing the funding to make the series possible.

Know Your Land: Garden Soils 101

On Thursday, April 11 at 6:00 PM Learn all you need to know to build and maintain healthy garden soil. We will cover soil testing, understanding your soil test, and the principles of soil health. Learn how to maintain microbially-rich, resilient soil with just a few key concepts. This event takes place in person at Kachemak Bay Campus and via Zoom. Deskhand Skills logo
Deckhand Skills

Learn practical job skills for becoming a deckhand on any vessel in one weekend at Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer. Includes safety, survival skills, line handling, knots, gear, basic navigation, crew roles, helm, wheelhouse expectations, and more. Scholarships are available through the Homer Marine Trades Association. 16 years and up, 15 years allowed with special permission from instructor.
