The Song of Plankton: Gems of the Sea

a colorful mandala decorated with plankton

–

On Thursday, November 19, at 6 pm, naturalist-artist Kim McNett will share her experience in interfacing science and art in coastal Alaskan communities and her voyage on the R/V Tiglax's fall cruise for Long-Term Ecological Research in the Gulf of Alaska.

This presentation is part of The Song of the Plankton project, an expression of gratitude for the source of life in the sea. Integrating scientific explorations of living plankton and the mindful creativity of mandala art, this collaborative public project showcases Alaskan coastal communities' knowledge and affections for local marine abundance.

This project includes a workshop on November 21: The Science and the Art of the Gems of the Sea with Kim McNett and scientist Kim Schuster.
