Dick Gerhart's vehicle in front of his cabin, Soldotna 1950

On a -40 below day we see Dick Gerhart's vehicle in front of his cabin. Various methods were used to warm up this frozen hunk of iron enough to get one spark. Evident is a blanket over the hood, a heavy metal dishpan in which combustible material is placed under the engine and lighted.
