Sterling Highway construction in Ninilchik, 1950's
Shown here is the Sterling Highway under construction in the Ninilchik area. The highway opened up access to the Kenai Peninsula. Heretofore, transportation was via water or air. Prior to that, early cultures traveled mainly by foot.
