Mel Carlson frame house, Soldotna 1957

The Mel Carlson frame home on Birch Lane is close to the Sterling Highway. The foundation was of concrete blocks, the first from Nestor's plant, and were laid by Jim Porter. It is still a snug (and tiny) house owned by the Devitos and occupied by a renter. Mel was an Alaska Road Commission employee who married a woman with three daughters. He made a good transition between bachelor-hood and instant parent.
